Cactus Club has been supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation for 11 years. To date, Cactus Club has hosted over 188 Make-A-Wish dinners each year for children and their families as a bon voyage party prior to their dream holiday. We also participate in their annual Sweet Dreams Dessert day event, whereby Cactus donates proceeds from every desert sold on the anniversary in which the first wish was granted. Our total lifetime contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation is $50,000 in cash and in-kind services.
Through a partnership with Templeton High School in east Vancouver, Cactus Club is able to connect with young members in a community that may not have otherwise had the opportunity to pursue a career in the culinary arts. Through the career preparation program at this local high school, students taking part in the program gain valuable work experience within our restaurants to meet certain graduation requirements. Since inception of this partnership, 45 students have been involved in this program and another 25 students are scheduled to take part in 2009/10.
In addition to supporting charities on a company-wide level, we also empower each of our restaurant locations and Head Office to participate in charities of their choice. We feel this presents our locations with the opportunity to make a real impact on a local level in the community. Sponsorship of charities typically involves cooking, catering, volunteering and serving. We are also sponsors of charity raffles and silent auctions to help various charities raise money for their cause. We participate in these charities by donating Cactus Club gift cards.
