Chef Rob Feenie of Cactus Restaurants Wins The Gold Medal!

Iron Chef Champion Rob Feenie Wins Gold at Gold Medal Plate Awards in Vancouver

It is with both great pleasure and excitement to announce that Iron Chef Champion Rob Feenie won GOLD at Friday night’s annual GOLD MEDAL PLATE awards in Vancouver. Up against the best Chef’s in Vancouver the win was no easy feat for Chef Feenie and his team of 13 red seal Chef’s from Cactus Club Restaurants.

“I have not been this excited in a long time, and in some ways, I was more nervous about this competition than I was on Iron Chef America,” said a glowing Rob on Friday night. “I am so lucky to have the support and resources that I have here at Cactus Club - this win would be very difficult if it were not for them.”

Jasmin Porcic who has been one of Rob’s greatest supporter, and Sous Chef’s for many years was with him Friday night, along with Vancouver’s best pastry Chef, Wendy Boys and a solid lineup of Red Seal Chefs from Cactus Club Restaurants including, Eric Foskett, Tina Lau, Simon Manvell, Kurt Palmer, Troy Daniels, John DeMercado, James Bunting, Kai Korroll, Lucas Worthy, Brian Picard, and Corey Wittig.

Gold Medal Plates is the ultimate celebration of Canadian Excellence in cuisine, wine, entertainment and athletic achievement. Celebrating in six cities across Canada in 2009, Gold Medal Plates featured superb wines and the premier chefs in each city, paired with Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes, in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team in each city, and subsequently nation-wide.

Founded in 2003, the goal of Gold Medal Plates is to raise substantial funds for Canada's high performance athletes, while celebrating Canadian excellence. Since 2004, this event has received tremendous support and accolades all across Canada, and generated a combined net total of $2.8 million for Olympic and Paralympic athletes!

With Chef Feenie and his team’s win, he now goes on to compete in the Canadian Culinary Championships against 6 other Chef’s across Canada November 27th and 28th here in Vancouver. For more information on the Canadian Culinary Championships go to http://www.goldmedalplates.com/ccc.html.
