A Glimpse into Cactus Culture at its Finest

Highlights from the 2015/16 Cactus Conference

We laughed. We cried. It was better than Cats. Yes, we’re talking about the Cactus Club Cafe annual conference.

Filled with inspiration, hilarity and lots of celebration, our version of the Oscars showcased why Cactus culture really is the best in the business. Here are some of the highlights:

We set big goals, and smash them!

We just had the biggest growth spurt in Cactus history and more is on its way. President Richard Jaffray kicked off the conference by raising a toast to 2015: a year which saw three restaurants open in five months, in three different markets across Canada. And this is just the beginning. With significant expansion plans across the country, we can all look forward to huge opportunity for growth and development in the years to come.

We know how to have fun.

Our company is filled with some legendary movers and shakers who competed in the inaugural Cactus Lip Sync Battle. Four teams performed smash hits from Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and Kanye West, but it was Finance, Purchasing and IT (aka ‘Pompous Assets’) who stole the show, throwing down N’Sync and Spice Girls performances that won’t soon leave our memory banks.

We recognize hard work and passion.

Leonardo Di Caprio wasn’t the only person to win some hardware this awards season! At the Cactus Choice Awards, we celebrate the incredible people that make the Cactus experience so unique. The Oscars of Cactus, each coveted award recognizes the unmatched passion and pride that our people put into their work.

We’ll inspire you to reach for the summit.

We were privileged to hear from one of the world’s greatest mountain climbers – Ed Viesturs – who has summited the world’s 14 highest peaks, including Everest. His talk reminded us that to reach the summit of your biggest mountain or goal you must have patience, persistence and be able to work as part of a team. “Verbalize your goal and make a commitment.” – Ed Viesturs.

Cactus can offer rewarding life-long careers.

This year we celebrated some very significant milestones among our staff. Marking his 20-year anniversary with the company, our Director of Operations, Andy Latchford started his Cactus career in a similar way to our founder – in the restaurant. Known for his creativity, entrepreneurship and passion for creating a fun and welcoming environment in our restaurants, Andy is an inspiring leader who never runs out of ideas or energy.

Congratulations, Andy! We look forward to another 20 that are as good as the first.
