Cactus Leadership: Brittany Shull

As Cactus Club Cafe experiences the largest growth in our 28 year history, we want to celebrate the inspiring leaders that have helped us get here and they don’t get more inspiring than Brittany Shull, General Manager of Cactus Club Cafe Park Royal.

What was your first job?

My first official job was working at my Uncle’s sandwich shop in Powell River. I started with Cactus at the Nanaimo location as a host in 2006 and worked every position in the front-of-house.

How did you get into your current position?

I worked my way up in the ranks in Nanaimo and became a senior closer there. While working there, I was also finishing up my Criminology degree pursuing an entry level job as a parole officer. After I graduated in 2008, I moved to New Westminster in hopes of finding a job there within that career. I felt like I was really missing my Cactus family so I started working at the Byrne Road location (one day after I moved!) After a month, I became a shift leader and realized how attached I was to Cactus and the people here. I had to make the choice between becoming a Parole Officer and staying with this company. I realized I couldn’t leave and I haven’t looked back since.

Where can we find you if you’re not working?

I would be outside running or riding my bike. I love doing triathlons and have been in two full Ironman races with close to 20 other triathlons.

Why do you enjoy working for Cactus?

In one word: people. The guests you meet and the relationships you build working with like-minded individuals are big. My goal is to build a family at each location.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Ironman Canada. It takes a year of commitment and full 14-hour days but it has helped me with mental toughness which has helped me to succeed in other areas.

What is your most memorable CCC memory?

It would have to be the Coal Harbour open and being fully dedicated to that. Standing in front of 30 employees in the terrace creating this new experience and concept was absolutely exhilarating.
